SUP Ocean Touring & Training on Quadra Island

We are excited for 2017 to introduce our new S.O.A.R Paddle Camps to our line up of sup training and multi day expeditions. S.O.A.R (SUP Surf, Ocean and River ) Paddle Camps aim to deliver an instructional, fun and progressive standup paddle board training experience for sup enthusiasts, potential instructors or those goal setters looking for the opportunity for self challenge, growth and leadership training. Our SOAR Paddle Camps will be hosted by top level instructors and coaches with a focus on safety, building sup skills, and increasing self and group leadership skills while gaining valuable paddling experience under the instruction and coaching of the team. Our camps are hosted in some of the most beautiful places in British Columbia.

Our SOAR Ocean Camp offers an immersive training week for those who want to become competent with their paddleboard in a dynamic ocean environment with the goal of gaining the skills and experience necessary to tour and explore the coastline safely on your own or to help you build experience with the goal of leading others. Our Ocean camp provides immersive SUP training that will introduce participants to ocean safety, self rescue and awareness, pre trip preparation and route planning. You will also be part of co-ordinating an overnight mini expedition around the beautiful waters of Quadra Island in order to build our sup camping and overnight touring skills.

Our week takes place at the beautiful Discovery Islands Lodge on Quadra Island. The Lodge is adjacent to Surge Narrows Marine Park which is one of the most biologically diverse ocean environments in the Pacific Northwest. Water classification ranges from flatwater to Class 4 whitewater tidal rapids. These dynamic conditions will provide an opportunity for participants to observe and understand the complexities of ocean travel. Throughout the week, there will be workshops on weather and navigation, tides and currents, safety including on water rescues, skill and stroke development. Infused with leadership talks, gear demo’s and shared learning and debriefs, our week will end with an overnight component. The group will travel to a remote location and camp for the evening before returning to Discovery Islands Lodge for our final wrap up the following day.

We are all really excited about this new sup ocean experience and we look forward to sharing our expertise and the incredible destination of Quadra Island and area.
